# Points Multiplier Campaigns

> Run a double points weekend, and know which points actually get multiplied.

A points multiplier campaign boosts what customers earn for a while. Set it to 3x and a code worth 20 points pays 60 instead. Qtap calls this campaign type **Points Multiplier**, and it only applies to points programs. Stamps are never multiplied.

## What gets multiplied

The bonus is applied at the moment a customer earns, and only on the two paths where the customer does the earning themselves:

* A customer scans one of your QR codes in the Qtap app.
* A customer taps one of your NFC tags.

The starting number is the points value saved on that code or tag, so a 30-point tag pays 60 during a 2x event.

<Warning>
  Points a staff member gives out on the **Points Ops** page are not multiplied. That covers both By Amount and Manual Points. During a 3x weekend, a 50-point award typed at the till is still 50 points. If you want the bonus to reach everyone, ask customers to scan or tap for themselves while the campaign runs.
</Warning>

If two multiplier campaigns are active at the same time, the larger one wins. They do not stack.

<Info>
  Owners and managers can create campaigns. Staff members don't have access to the Campaigns page by default.

## Setting one up

Go to **Campaigns** in the left sidebar and click **New Campaign**.

<Steps>
  ### Step 1: Type

  Choose **Points Multiplier** and give the campaign a name. Customers see this name on the bonus in the app, so "National Day Double Points" reads better than "promo3".

  </Frame>

  ### Step 2: Trigger

  Pick the multiplier, then set a start and end date. The start and end times are optional.

  </Frame>

  The list runs 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 5x and 10x. Qtap awards whole points, so a round multiplier keeps the numbers easy to explain at the counter.

  </Frame>

  ### Step 3 to 7: Reward, audience, message

  A reward is optional here, and most multiplier campaigns don't need one: the bonus points are the reward. Leave the audience on the default so the campaign goes out as a notification, and write a title and message telling customers the bonus is on. **Use Template** fills in a starting point you can edit.

  ### Step 8: Review

  The review screen lists the name, the type, the reward and the notification. It doesn't repeat the multiplier or the dates, so check those on the Trigger step before you finish. Click **Activate Campaign** to start it, or **Save as Draft** to come back later.

</Steps>

## Turning it off

<Warning>
  The end date you set controls the announcement, not the bonus. Once a multiplier campaign is active it keeps multiplying every scan and tap until you stop it, even after the end date has passed. Go to **Campaigns** and click **Pause** on the campaign the moment the promotion is over.
</Warning>

## What customers and staff see

At the counter, a customer who scans during a 3x event gets a confirmation in the app reading "60 points earned! (3x bonus!)", with a badge naming the campaign. The same line lands in your records: the entry reads "60 points (3x — National Day Double Points)" instead of the usual "20 points at Golden Crust Bakery", so you can tell later which points came from the promotion.

The notification goes to every member of your business, and reaches the phones of those who have the app with notifications on. Each member receives it once, so a campaign you pause and restart next month won't message the same people twice.
